"Marble Manikin Man will teach students about art concepts such as sculpting, texture, movement and form.

Third through fifth grade students have expressed in interest in helping create a large piece of artwork that can be displayed permanently in the school. Many of the students do not have opportunities to see, touch, or help create large sculptures.

This project will benefit the students in that they will work on a project as a team and with other grades, they will have hands-on experiences and their work will be displayed for the whole school community to enjoy. The resource needed is a life-size manikin. I already have the glass glob marbles, adhesive and grout. The students will glue glass glob marbles all over the manikin's body and then apply grout between the marbles throughout the manikin. It will create a surface with bumpy and smooth textures.

The manikin received for this project will inspire the students to analyze, describe and be a part of an art piece that will be in their memories for the rest of their lives. hide»

Dear Jen, Jennifer and Anonymous Donors,

This project will get started September 2010. The manikin ordered will not get to my school until the beginning of June 2010 when the students are on summer vacation. The Thank You pictures include a copy of a plaque that I got made up for this project. This plaque acknowledges the donors and their generous donations. The plaque will eventually be placed permanently on the base of the manikin. I will take the plaque to show each donor how much we appreciate their donations and then let them know that the project will continue in the fall. When the project is finished, I will take the manikin to each business for display. The other pictures are a sample of what the students will create and some of the materials they will use. As the students looked at the sample, they asked questions about the project and seemed very excited for September to get here. I will take more pictures when the manikin gets here and the students are working on it. Thank you very much!

With gratitude,
Ms. G.

Dear Jen, Jennifer and Anonymous Donors,

This project has now been funded and we are ready to begin! The life of Marble Manikin Man is moving forward. He will inspire the students to think about sculpture in a whole different way as they are a part of creating him. The students will place hundreds of glass globs and marbles (using a non-toxic adhesive) all over his body and then spread grout between each glass glob and marble to ensure permanent placement. The students will get to work on a 3-D figure that is much larger than most of them and see their work displayed in a community setting. The glass globs and marbles give the students an experience working with different textures, other than pencil on paper or paint on paper. Thank You Very Much Donors and Volunteers!

With gratitude,
Ms. G.
