Getting students excited about reading is the heart of education. A student who recognizes that they can enjoy reading, can, in turn, begin to love learning. My students are in a high poverty and high dropout location. Anything that can encourage them to read is a must!

My class has been reading The Hunger Games which is the first book in the trilogy that Catching Fire continues. I've been teaching for 9 years and I have never had students beg me every day to read. They love this book! Many have asked me if we can read the sequel too, but we just don't have the funds to purchase the copies.

I am requesting a class set of Catching Fire so that I can continue the momentum of their enthusiasm. In addition, Catching Fire continues and expands upon symbolism and themes introduced in Hunger Games that my students are just beginning to really grasp.

If you provide a class set of Catching Fire for my class, I can guarantee you that you will be helping very needy students by encouraging a love of reading and also developing the critical thinking skills that come with analyzing symbolism and theme.
