I am a speech pathologist and I work with 2nd-5th grade students and I also serve the profoundly mentally disabled population. My school is great because we are a family and each teacher and student is taken care of. There is never a day that I do not want to come to work or that I wished I worked some where else. I love my teachers, students, and administration.

I believe every child I work with should have a great quality of life. I believe they all should be able to communicate, especially simple emotions,wants and needs. Things that come so natural for everyone else are very difficult for my PMD students. I am sure there are things that they would like to communicate and share but are unable to because of their disability. I believe that they can communicate, they just need a means. Every human is entitled to this right.

I need some iPod touch devices. There is an application that can be purchased that works like a communication device. It would allow my students to input information by choosing pictures and this application turns the iPod into a communication device by communicating what the child has chosen. For instance, if the child chooses the pictures for "I want" and the picture for "to", "go", and "bathroom". This devices will say "I want to go to the bathroom." This allows the child to communicate simple emotions,wants and needs, not to mention it is more readily available than some communication devices that come specific vendors.

Your help with this project will ensure that my students will have access to and the ability to communicate with teachers, students and best of all their parents, who may have never thought it was possible that their child would be able to say things like "I am hungry", "I love you", and "Thank you."
