We're Rock Stars

My students each need geodes to explore, a class rock collection set, magnifying glasses, a microscope, an earth discovery box, and various information books about rocks.

My project will enlighten my students' attitudes about learning by allowing them to become "ROCK STARS"! I teach a regular education first grade class in a school that is located in a low economic community. A majority of my students do not have the resources at home they extremely need to help them excel academically. My classroom also exhibits a learning style that requires hands-on learning.

My students are very kinesthetic and require hands-on learning in order to obtain the objectives and goals being delivered to them. I am unable to meet my students' needs because I do not have the needed materials that will allow my students to explore the earth's resources through experimental learning.

This project will allow me to engage my students in hands-on learning by providing a rock and fossil collection so the students can observe the various textures and colors of all types of rocks. The project will also include a geode for every student that they can break open and explore what is on the inside. To help the students take a closer look at the rocks and geodes, magnifying glasses and a microscope that portrays an image through to the television will also be accessible for the students to use. An "Earth's Science Discovery Box" will provide additional discovery and experimental learning by including simple experiments that will enhance understanding of the topic. Lastly, various books will be added to my classroom library for my students to read that provide factual information about rocks.

By funding my project, you will ensure that my students become life-long learners because they will become enthusiastic about learning after transforming into "Rock Stars"! You will make it possible for my students to learn a new concept in a way that meets their learning style needs.
