Nap Time Is Over! Now What?

I teach the only Kindergarten class in our rural school. Our school district does not have enough students to offer early fives or Junior Kindergarten.

Our school has been faced with declining enrollment and extreme budget cuts. We have lengthened our school week from 4 to 5 days of Kindergarten and increased our school day to help save on operational costs. Parents and I have noticed the younger students having a hard time adjusting to this busy schedule. I decided to try Nap Time for 20 minutes every day, in hopes of giving them a chance to recharge their little bodies and minds.

We used local donations to purchase rest mats and they have been wonderful. My students are very independent about getting out their mats and cleaning them before putting them away. The problem is they are taking up too much space and the students have trouble folding them correctly. The pile inevitably tumbles over. We end up wasting classroom time refolding and restacking the mats. We need a storage space that will enable the students to put their own mats away and can be wheeled out of our way until need again.

Our project has already been put into action with successful results. We just need your help to make it more manageable for the students by purchasing a rolling nap mat shelf.
