I teach the gifted and talented classes in a school with an 80% free and reduced lunch population. Our classroom funding is limited and many of my students cannot afford to provide normal classroom supplies.

My students are very inquisitive and many times ask about topics that I either do not have the classroom materials (books) to assist in their research or the knowledge myself. We use the classroom computer to research those items, but find that it allows for only one person to truly be in control of the research. It just does not fully engage each student. Many times gifted students like to be the leader or do things on their own and I feel that working individually at the computer does nothing to address their need for social interaction.

My belief is that an LCD projector would initiate more whole-group discussions and work to improve much needed social skills. Many times I describe them as a tribe, unfortunately they all think they should be the chief. The LCD projector would also help to utiliize online resources more fully.

Your help would enable my class of leaders to share the stage with their peers and learn to value the opinions of others, which would assist them in becoming well-rounded individuals.
