Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Biology to 9-12 grade students in a internationally focused, high needs urban high school.

The Interactive Notebook (IAN) designed by the AVID program is a fantastic tool for teaching students science and organization skills. Unfortunately, the IAN requires a lot of basic materials which cost more than the typical stipend for supplies given to our academy.

The Science IAN requires time and creativity to complete effectively, but also requires many consumable supplies. These resources include markers, construction paper, and especially, glue sticks. When these materials are available students usage of their IAN is only limited by their imagination.

With your help these students will be able to develop study methods, organizational skills and real science understanding that will prepare them for a college education. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a great program for setting students up for success. This particular aspect of AVID emphasizes the use of color and creativity in the learning and studying of material. Your contributions will help my students continue on this path and prepare for success in college.
