I teach 22 bright, active Kindergartners. Our school is a Title I school, with over fifty percent of our students participating in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. My students are busy learning all day long; it seems like we never stop!

At the end of each day, we have time for developmental centers--this gives us a chance to work on important social skills that can otherwise get overlooked during our busy day. One center we have every week is Housekeeping. The kids love to go to Housekeeping so that they can be the "parents" for a change...I enjoy listening to them as they take charge of the "household"!

We have a very nice set of kitchen appliances and cupboards in our Housekeeping center, but almost no food or dishes! I would like for our Housekeeping area to have a wide variety of food, dishes, and pots and pans so the boys and girls can have even more fun as they prepare meals and run their kitchen.

Social skills are taking a backseat to academics in our schools today. We forget that five-year-olds need a chance to use their imagination and learn how to work and play together. We need developmentally appropriate centers that give children a chance to grow socially and emotionally, as well as academically. Your help will give us a well-stocked kitchen AND a well-rounded Kindergarten experience.
