The children in my classroom are growing up in a high-needs community where resources are limited and time is a precious commodity.
My children crave one-on-one attention and love for me to read to them. Unfortunately, there are twenty-three of them, only one of me, and we have a rigorous daily schedule that cannot be ignored. I believe that my students would greatly benefit from a classroom listening center. With the materials involved in this center, my students will be able to hear a story, follow the story in a book, and build their reading skills along the way. My students need three tape players and three sets of headphones for their listening center. My classroom is divided into center groups of three, so each group would have a chance to rotate to the listening center every week and enjoy having a story read to them individually. The materials that I have chosen are simple for a kindergartner to use, so they will also be able to develop independence and responsibility by using this center. My children love stories! They come alive during read aloud time--they love to relate the stories we read to their own lives and experiences. By providing for this project, you will allow my students to experience the treasure of reading. You may not physically be able to come to my classroom and read to my children, but you can help me provide a way for them to be read to individually, each and every day. My students need 3 headphones and 3 tape players. HIDELive Updates
