I teach 7th and 8th grade science at an environmentally focused K-8 Charter School in western North Carolina.
The house of science is built upon creativity, inspiration, knowledge, and a huge pile of daunting scientific words. The complex vocabulary of science often stifles students' natural inclinations toward the subject, and in order to provide them with a 'toolkit' to break down these words, I have begun integrating Latin and Greek root word vocabulary into my science curriculum. I need to give them the tools to use root words. Their hands and minds are ready, but they need the implements to build their house of science knowledge. Being able to use a set of Latin and Greek dictionaries will empower them to delve into science with a strong set of knowledge and skills to break down complex vocabulary. Your donation will make sure that the next generation of environmental leaders will not only know key scientific vocabulary, but will have the skills needed to make sense of the increasingly complex scientific jargon. You can help them build their house of science knowledge. HIDE My students need ten Latin and Greek Root Word dictionaries to become strong literate scientists.
