I am a librarian. Our school is one unique place:) We are a county school that serves the military community. Among other things, our community a hardship base for the military. This means our population can be stationed here because a family member is seriously ill or wounded and need treatment nearby. Our students come from literally all ends of the earth. Their parents serve our nation each and every day. Our primary goal here at school is to make their time with us positive and full of great learning experiences. Additionally, we are a very large elementary school serving nearly 1,300 students from pre-K-6th grades.

With major budget cuts this year, I am not able to buy any supplies for my library other than books. These book racks are needed to house some of the great books we have in our library both old and new and allow the students to easily discover a "great read".

My students need book racks in the library which I realize is a weird request. If we put the library books on these racks,our students can find books easier. This works especially well for our K-2 and special needs students. Our kids get to have success finding their favorites and ,hopefully, they read more (yeah!!). They also feel successful navigating the library, which builds ,we hope, stewardship for libraries in their later years. In the spirit of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" if you give a kid a book rack then,hopefully, he'll want to read the entire library collection!!

By providing these book racks you are perhaps providing a learning opportunity to students who might not discover great books. It is a simple step to easier access to books for students, who we think serve our county too by sacrificing time with their families. Many of these family members are deployed or recovering from war.
