Super Sensational Science Specialists

My students need a sand table and rocks collection so that they can simulate erosion, deposition, weathering, tributaries, runoff and many other changes to landforms.

We are excited, fifth grade, hands on, super scientists! We need to have different ways to learn the information our teacher is trying to teach us. Reading a book is OK, but when we get our hands in the mix and create what we are learning, it helps us to remember way more information.

We read from a science book and take turns reading. We answer questions about what we have read. Our teacher has us act out some of the things we learn in science with hand motions. We watch movies about science topics. We don't have a way of actually seeing the action first hand. Talking about things, watching movies about things and physically touching the things we are learning about are very different.

A sand table will deliver the perfect place for us to create models of rivers, canyons, tributaries, and mountains. We can pour water over our models to find the affect of runoff from the water cycle. We can see parts of the water cycle in action. How erosion and water runoff affect landforms would be much easier to see if we are involved in the actual erosion. A river delta is easier to see when you can see it happening. We want to have a deep understanding of science and this table will help all of our 5th grade to get it. We are super scientists on a mission for deeper understanding.

Your help with this project will enable students to get their hands dirty and see actual water flow in action. They can see deposition, erosion, and watch how the soil moves from one area to another during a rain storm. So many simulations will be possible if you will help us with this project. We really want to be super scientists and you are our ticket to higher learning.
