I teach in a low income district in Missouri. There is not a lot of extra money to purchase supplies like tables.

I teach 5th grade social studies and have changed the way I teach this year. I am using more cooperative activities and group activities. My students seem to be learning the materials much better, but it is hard to make the classroom friendly for the kids work when I have individual desks for them to work in.

My classroom needs tables so the students can sit more closely together and work in groups cooperatively. Students learn better when they can hear a variety of ideas from each other. This allows them to develop the abilities to work out difference in positive ways while maximizing their exposure to educational materials.

These tables will make it possible for my students to work together and become active independent learners. They will take these skills with them for a lifetime of cooperation with the people with whom they must work.
