"Now children can become the characters in their favorite children's books! As a Pre-K teacher, I believe that book related pretend play is essential in the development of vocabulary and comprehension, especially in English Language Learners.
I teach in an urban area with a high population of ELL children. In my pre-school classroom I teach most literature through costumes and props. This brings new meaning to the story and makes it "real" to the children. Even if they do not understand English, by acting out the story and using a variety of props the students learn the vocabulary, familiar text, and story sequence. The children are introduced to the story and then later on are given the opportunity to become the characters by dressing in costumes which I purchase and supply. Most of the costumes and props are made by me through my excellent hot gluing skills! Sometimes it is difficult to create a costume or a prop because I do not have an accurate measure or (since I am not the greatest artist) sometimes my version does not look so much like the story.
I have requested some dress up clothes and a projector. The Dress Up Clothing will help with more complicated costumes such as the animal costumes that I ordered (the ones I ordered will go along with the book Click Clack Moo by Doreen Cronin and The 3 Little Pigs by Paul Galdone). I also requested a projector so that I can make costumes and props that they do not sell in stores. If I had a projector I could project the object I need to trace on the wall and make it bigger or smaller according to what I need. Also, I could make the features of the costumes more accurate according to the picture. I also like to make what I call "edible" puppets. The children get to "feed" the puppet items that are in the story. By having the projector I could make a variety of these interactive costumes story props.
Your donation will help in the first step of creating more interactive story telling opportunities for my children. It is so rewarding to hear them repeat and act out a new story with their peers. It is even more exciting when they ask me over and over again if they could "preform" the story. Your donation can make my classroom come alive and bring quality children's literature to life.
My students need 1 projector so their teacher can create book related props, 3 cow, 3 pig, and 3 duck costumes in order to recreate their own versions of "Click Clack Moo" by Doreen Cronin and "The 3 Little Pigs" by Paul Galdone.

Dear Janice, Mrs. Llaguno, Ed, daphne and Victoria Foundation,
From the bottom of my heart I want to express my sincerest thank you for all of your generous contributions to my posted project. My children were ecstatic to see the costumes and could not wait to dive right in and use their imaginations. The projector that you also donated will be a wonderful help for tracing and creating a numerous amount of story props. My children LOVE to pretend and retell stories. Most of my children are not read to at home, because of language barriers, so school is the only time they receive a rich literature experience. Normally, I make the costumes to accompany the books ( I'm great at hot gluing!), but now my children have some really great costumes that they can use in their retelling. We used the costumes to retell the 3 Little Pigs, Click Clack Moo: Cows that type, and Giggle Giggle Quack. Immediately my kids went wild when they saw the costumes, raising their hands and shouting "I wanna be the pig, I wanna be the cow, I wanna be the duck!!! "
You have done a wonderful thing by donating to this project and once again, from myself and my students THANK YOU! Your donation really did help books come alive in our classroom.
With gratitude, Mrs. H.

Dear Janice, Mrs. Llaguno, Ed, daphne and Victoria Foundation,
I cannot begin to thank you all enough for your generosity. I am so excited to receive the materials and get started! I know my children will benefit educationally from your kindness and support.
It is so wonderful to know that you all share in a love of reading and imagination. The children in my class and future classes to come will be able to spend hours making the characters in their favorite books come alive through their own reenactments. They will develop essential literary skills that will prepare them for reading later on in life.
I am so grateful to all of you for you kindness and generosity, Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
