Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Snap the Alphabet… I teach Pre-Kindergarten students in a low income school. We are a community school and try to keep parents involved in their children’s education. My students come without any knowledge of letters and sounds.

We go over a letter a week. I provide manipulatives for students to use in a whole group and individually. First the objective is modeled to the student, then as a whole group we practice the objective and then each child demonstrates their own knowledge by sorting objects into groups. For instance: they would pick up a letter “A” and then find the pictures of an Ape, Apple and Alligator to place next to the letter A. They would name each picture, say the sound of the letter and name the letter.

A digital camera would be beneficial to take pictures of animals, plants, food, and all sorts of objects that we use in everyday life. It would allow my students to place the pictures of objects into buckets, hula hoops or graphic organizers while they meeting the PASS objective.

Your help will benefit every student by enhancing their understanding and ability to use knowledge. Students will be able to identify, sort, name the letters of the alphabet and say the sounds of the letters.
