I teach music at in a Title 1 elementary school in South Carolina with over 1000 students! My classes are very diverse but they all love to make and learn about music. I teach music to grades Kindergarten through fifth and also teach special education students.

My students love to learn about music from other countries. It is fascinating to them that people on the other side of the planet who are so different than them, are also similar to them in that they love music! One of the cultures we study is that of Australia. My students also learned about aboriginal art in art class and were able to make many connections. So what do we need?

My students need a real performance of the music and instruments of Australia. We would like a guest performer to come in to play the didgeridoo and other Australian instruments for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes. It will be an amazing show filled with information about the music, art, and culture of Australia. Some of the students will even get to play didgeridoos made from PVC pipe. It is very difficult for students to get excited about seeing only a picture of an instrument and hearing it on a CD. If my students could actually see, touch, and play the real instruments it would be an experience they would never forget.

Hands on learning is key for student achievement. With the children able to actually see, hold, and play these instruments, they will be more successful than if they were to look at pictures alone. Please become an advocate for music education in public schools. The arts are so important in the lives of children and your donation can be a part of that great endeavor!
