Matryoshka Doll- Learning about Russian Folklore

My students need different art supplies, such as unfinished nesting dolls, paintbrushes, palettes, acrylic paint and acrylic spray.

My classroom is a place where my students connect with others from all over the world. I teach Art Kindergarten-5th Grade in an elementary school in Florida. The school where I teach is Title 1 and located in a low socio-economic area. Most students receive free or reduced lunch.

The following project proposal will be completed with my 4th Grade students. I am always looking for new ways to get my students interested and motivated to learn more in art. During the second half of this year, we will be learning about the Matryoshka Doll. The dolls are symbols of Russian Folk Art and tell the viewer a story.

Students always retain more information I find when they complete tasks hands-on. I would like for each 4th grade student to paint and create his or her own Matryoshka doll. The students will be able to take them home and tell others what they have learned. This project like many others I do with my students, teaches them to be internationally minded and also more aware of the world.

By funding this project, you will make it possible for my students to create their own Matryoshka doll and to learn more hands-on about Russian Folk Art.
