I teach general classroom music to K-5 students, including 4 special needs classes, in a school with a population close to 800 students. We have many students with a strong interest in music.
Our school has just purchased 2 portable computer labs that have 15 laptops. We have no music programs on the laptops and no funds to purchase them due to budget shortfalls. Having music programs on one of the systems will integrate technology and music, allow students to learn at their own pace, and use a virtual environment to create music! I will be able to reserve a lab and bring it to my classroom. With 15 computers with music programs on them students can work in pairs and will be able to save their work and learn from one another. The programs will reinforce music skills taught and students will develop critical thinking skills as they create their own musical compositions based on the step by step knowledge they will learn as they work through the programs at a pace that is comfortable for them. It is important that students today be skilled in technology and music is no exception. Most teachers in the school have computer programs available to them in their subject areas. With the availability of 2 portable labs it is prime time to bring to music students the same experiences they can have in their other classrooms. You will make it possible for my students to use technology to advance their understanding of basic music skills including composition. HIDE My students need 15 copies of the Groovy Music Series.
