"The power of the visual brings the thirst of knowledge to bear for even the most jaded of students. My students attend a high-needs school in a community facing often extreme poverty. So many promises have been broken on their path to my Chemistry classroom that I can't fault them for indifference. By that same token, I can't allow such attitudes to prevail any longer, in my or any other classroom. When a student asks me if we are going to do something amazing in class, it breaks my heart to look at our broken, outdated equipment and know we don't yet have the resources in place to perform the labs they deserve. Science is more than textbooks and worksheets, and in the face of entrenched obstacles, we owe it to disadvantaged students to transcend the status quo. My students work so hard to better themselves, to be the first of their families to go to four-year colleges, community college or trade school, and it is time to fully empower them to do so. When lab equipment and chemicals lay beyond our reach, we must find new ways to engage the heart of chemistry without them. An LCD projector can present knowledge in novel ways, offer a virtual interface for interaction with the laboratory setting, and captivate learners who struggle with rote tasks on chalkboards and dittos. Students will have an outlet not only to experience the scientific method in ways their current lab cannot support, but also to gain proficiency with multimedia software and presentations that are essential for higher learning. By contributing to the purchase of this LCD projector, you will unlock entire new avenues for student achievement. You will make it possible for them to experience a world of science they might never have imagined. They might even fall in love with a field that provides such a fantastic perspective on our universe. A donation lets each student know that there are people who care about them and who they become when they grow up. I would love for you to share in such an endeavor, and this is a great way to do so.
My students need an LCD projector to bring their learning to life and safely experience the laboratory investigations that showcase the marvels of chemistry.
The cost of this proposal is $787, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ."

Dear Marianne, Dana, Jerome, STEPHEN, Joanna, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Anonymous Donors,
I can't thank you enough for all of your generous donations,
and on behalf of all of my students, thank you for providing our classroom with
a brand new projector. With this one new
piece of technology, we will be able to explore chemistry in ways we could only
imagine with textbooks and worksheets.
More than just an educational tool, this projector will provide the
means to inspire students to confront, engage, and find their true passion for the
everyday wonder of science. Your gift
will allow us to bridge the gap between where my students currently stand and
the great achievements that await them in the future. I can't wait to share our progress, and I
look forward to having them share their appreciation with you directly. Once again, thank you for your generosity,
your kind words, and your commitment to students in need. You make this all possible! With gratitude, Mr. K.
