I teach all day Kindergarten in a high-need community. My classroom is hands- and brains-on, and we love to learn from one another and through music. We love to sing and dance. My goal is to inspire my students to believe in themselves and become lifelong learners.

My students and I love to sing and dance. We love to learn through song. If there is a song that correlates with our topic, we will learn it. We sing to learn the days of the week, weather, months of the year, how to count by tens, cardinal directions, letters, letter sounds, long and short vowel sounds, names of the 50 states, insect body parts, familiar stories, and many other concepts. I also use songs as signals for the students. The students know how to transition based on the song they hear. I love music, and so do my students. We need a reliable and durable speaker system. Very few CD players amplify loud enough to be used in a classroom. Also, they do not last. This is my third year of teaching, and I have purchased 4 CD players. Unfortunately, the fourth player is also breaking. Our classroom needs a speaker system to use throughout the day. We use a variety of songs throughout the day. As a result, it requires a large quantity of Cd's. Each day, we lose precious instructional time while I find and switch Cd's. It is easy for the students to become distracted and off-task while waiting for the next song. I would estimate we lose 10-15 minutes of instructional time each day.

Our class needs a durable speaker system with a remote control. We need a speaker system that can amplify loud enough for a classroom. The remote control would allow me to cue the music from anywhere in the classroom, thus eliminating wasted instructional time. Our classroom would also benefit from an iPod nano. All our songs would be combined to one device, and the songs could be accessed with the touch of a button. My students would no longer need to wait for a song, and we would have more time-on-task.

We need your support of our project. Our kindergarten standards are higher than ever, and we need as much instructional time as possible. We need to be focused and to eliminate as many distractions as possible. You can help make this possible by funding our project. Your funding would allow my students to sing and learn topics in a fun way, without wasting any time.
