Hi! I teach 6th grade math, science, and social studies. I work in a title 1, inner city school where our budgets are very limited. I, like my students, can't stand sitting through another boring lesson of math or science. I see all of these exciting things on the Internet, but can't quite find the money to purchase them for my students. I want to make everyday meaningful to my students and I think that relating both math and science to our everyday lives is the best way to encourage young people. After all, if they understand why they need to learn how to work out an equation or use measurements, than they will probably see the picture more clearly. I believe it's important to have fun while learning, too. I have requested 25 copies of the Time for Kids magazine, a Real-World Math Problem Solving Kit, and 4 copies of Smath which are educational math games the kids can play when they are through with an assignment or test. My class doesn't have many educational games that will help them learn, which is why I choose the things on my list. I love relating real world situations to my students. They are truly special kids!
