My students learn traditional and current art techniques specifically in the areas of photography and cartooning and animation. They focus on digital technology and uploading their work to the Internet on their personal blogs. My students range from 9th to 12th grade. Some are considered “special ed” while others are in the gifted academy here (I have a HUGE range of abilities). The majority of my students are Hispanic and my school is currently at about 65% students receiving free or reduced lunch. Despite my students’ economic status, they attack art projects with a voracious appetite for learning and intensely creative thought. My class is many of my students’ favorite, and they tell me that they look forward to it each day. It really provides a great creative release for them, while teaching them real life, 21st century art, writing, and design skills.
My class is currently operated on a ZERO DOLLAR BUDGET! Because of the economic situation and the housing foreclosure crisis, my school district has a monumental budget deficit. All teacher budget assets have been frozen, and teachers are expected to simply use the supplies they already have, or raise funds,(which is what brought me to donors choose!). My photography students have shown interest in the field of “Kite Aerial Photography” which involves attaching a digital camera to a small rig that is hung on a kite string. As the kite flies, the camera snaps pictures until the battery runs out or the memory card is full—pretty cool, right? This project would be awesome, fun, and cross-curricular (flight, science, physics), but it is simply something we cannot currently afford to do on our own. The solution starts with YOU! This year I hope to use Donors Choose to slowly build the resources I need to do this fun project. The first item I hope to receive is a photo printer, which will allow me to do two things. One, I will be able to print and display my students current digital work (right now it is only displayed online on their personal blogs). Two, we’ll be able to use this printer in an upcoming fundraising idea we have—shooting and selling cutesy couples and friends pictures on Valentine’s day. Students will be in charge of the photo taking so it will be a great real-life studio photography experience for them, as well as empowering to create great pictures. My students NEED these REAL LIFE experiences that they won’t get without your GENEROUS help!! Your donations will give them the ability to start developing portfolios, help in fundraising, and get closer to being able to experience KITE AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY—something they’d NEVER experience without YOUR help! Many of my students look to enter art school in the future and these experiences will fill their portfolios with unique work that will hopefully give them a leg up on their admittance competition. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated! HIDE My students need a photo printer to be able to see their results in print and to use as a further fund raiser during Valentine's Day--lovey-dovey couples photos for sale!
And my students need the refill cartridge because there will be MANY students printing work!
The cost of this proposal is $463, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment Mr. B.'s Classroom:
