Hooray! This project is fully funded

We are a low-income school in a large public school district in an urban city. Our school, once part of a failing comprehensive school, is now an autonomous small school on a larger campus. Our students are from low-income families, and a high percentage are special education students, or students for whom English is not their primary language.

We are aiming to embark upon this project with our entire sophomore class -- working cooperatively within both Language Arts and Social Studies classrooms, the book "Three Cups of Tea" will be part of a larger unit on humanitarian efforts around the world. Our plan is to show students some of the areas around the world where people are taking a stand to do something different for the betterment of others. We will take our students on field trips to local agencies such as MercyCorps and Medical Teams International in order to show them the different things "help" looks like.

We are asking for copies of Greg Mortenson's "Three Cups of Tea" -- enough for every student. We are asking for the book at three different reading levels -- the adult level for the vast majority of our students, as they prepare for the college level reading they will soon need to be accustomed to; the young reader's edition for a number of our limited English students and lower-skilled readers; the children's book edition for our students to take to the local elementary school as they continue their own volunteer work, and share their knowledge.

Your donation will help our students see the world through the eyes of others in need. Your donation will help our students see themselves as young people with power, despite their limited income and relative poverty. Your donation will help our students on their path to becoming humanitarians.
