Leap Into Learning

My preschool students need materials to promote early literacy, mathematics, and social skills for our LEAPS program including a Magnetic Write & Wipe Board, q set of Jumbo Upper and Lowercase Letters, a Numbers & Counting Theme Box, and art supplies from Scented Dough to washable finger paints.

As a school psychologist, I want my preschool students to LEAP into learning readiness and social skills skills for kindergarten. I, along with a speech pathologist, run the LEAPS program. The program teaches readiness and social skills to typically developing preschoolers along with students with a variety of disabilities. We created the program to allow the students in the Early Childhood Program the opportunity to be taught with other preschoolers in our district. This is our 3rd year in the program and students and parents are excited to participate!

The LEAPS program is being well received by preschoolers, parents, and teachers. We want to continue operating a successful program and have the needed educational materials to allow our preschoolers a premier learning environment. We have added additional classes this year and do not have the funding to purchase the additional educational materials needed. By having these materials, the children will be engaged in a fun, and creative learning environment while learning academic and social skills to help them be better prepared for kindergarten.

We need a magnetic write and wipe board and upper and lowercase Magnetic Letters. This will allow a visual for the children of the letter being taught each week. We also teach early mathematics and need the Numbers & Counting Theme Box to provide visual and hand-on materials for children to manipulate to understand number concepts. Our program includes hands-on activities to keep the students engaged. We need a set of sand & water activity tubs-set of four and the magnetic numbers and alphabet fishing sets to fish for each letter and number of the week. The additional fishing poles will allow us to continue to run small groups of 8 children at a time and have all of the children actively involved. We also need additional craft/art materials that we use frequently within our program. The mold & play moon sand, dough, and washable finger paints will be used when teaching letters and numbers. The children will stamp the numbers into the dough, write letters in finger paints as they state the letter sound, and use the moon sand during different letter/number activities. Finally, we need the Go Away, Big Green Monster Book and puppet to promote literacy and provide needed visuals.
