Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

What do you still have from high school? Your yearbook! I teach journalism to students in a high-needs high school. In a time of teacher furloughs and teacher layoffs, the school and district does not have the necessary funds to provide for these supplies.

Student journalists are trying to create and publish a 248 page yearbook with out the use of Photoshop and a scanner. This makes for a challenging experience. Additionally, we need a digital camera to capture the school memories and milestones.

This project will not only aid the these budding journalists, but it will preserve the history of the school through this student publication. There is a significant portion of our graduating class that are the first in their family to graduate from high school. What better way to honor such a milestone but by through a well produced student publication.

Student journalists must create a publication that is both on time and on budget. These students learn first-hand about journalism as well as business/marketing, technology, and life skills. Your contribution will help these students and students in years to come create a top notch student publication. Thank you!
