OOO OOO I Know the Answer!

My students need two sets of Write & Wipe answer boards, a class set of dry erase markers, and a brush caddy to hold the markers.

My class is in an inner city, urban classroom in Maryland. Our school is considered high poverty, as a great many of our scholars live in a community that is in need of change.

In my classroom, I try to be as creative as I can with my lessons. One strategy that I have seen several times in other classes, is using individual white boards to answer questions as a sort of individual check. This also could be used as a way to create a competition between the students that would help the lower-preforming students to step up and be challenged by the higher-performing students.

I did not have many individual white boards in my classroom. In fact, the ones I do have are too bulky to fit in an already cramped desk for daily student use. With these boards I would be able to say, "OK class. Take our your response boards and answer question 8. Put your board in the air when you think you have the right answer." Whereas right now I have to say, "Johnny, can you pass out the boards and markers for your group. Sally, now your group. Mark, your group. and Scott, your group. Group leaders, don't forget your markers!" And then we would have to collect them up at the end of the lesson.

By having the smaller, individual boards, I would estimate that I would gain 10 minutes daily to give additional instruction. Imagine what YOU could do with that 10 minutes everyday and think of all the possibilities these boards would provide my class!
