"I teach a combination 4/5 classroom of 26 students in a lower income school. About half of them are English Language Learners from all points of the globe. My students love environmental science. Measuring trees and doing leaf rubbings or examining bugs can be done across all language and financial barriers. We go to a marsh near our school every Friday and field glasses would allow such an exciting window into that world. Picture a child with a language barrier, glasses glued to her eyes, sharing a look at a far away bird or leaf or bug with a fellow student. See them draw that picture together, finding words to share as they share the glasses. With your help, those field glasses could empower all my students to be better scientists, citizens and friends.
My students need 12 pairs of study binocular field glasses to help them get the most out of our outdoor science Fridays.

Dear Maria and Rob, David & Claire, Dottie kivafriends.org, Janis, Liz, Pat, Heather, Lindsay, Josef, Jessica, lori and Anonymous Donors,
You have all been so generous and kind. Our group of students cannot believe that the field glasses are on their way. We have not been to our outdoor marsh area for several weeks as the weather has been too cold or too rainy.Only in Wisconsin can we say a sentence like that. They have devised a sign up sheet for using the binoculars when they arrive. Students are forming self developed partnerships to get access as soon as possible. We are now writing about ideas of what we can observe when we get there with the glasses. One student even suggested we could go next week and write how we see it with our "regular eyes". Then we should go back and write about it with our "magnified eyes'' when they get here. You have provided such a grand learning opportunity for my wonderful students. Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts. With gratitude, Ms. L.

"Receiving a Giving Card inspired me to make another donation. I'm pleased that a teacher in a school near where I live has such a strong commitment to nature education. I have worked for environmental organizations my whole life, and my passion for the environment comes from the time I spent exploring the outdoors as a child. Thanks for giving other children that opportunity. "
