My students need 8 different sets of heat experiment supplies, such as thermometers, radiometers, conductometers, ice melting kits, hand boilers, and UV detecting beads.

Science is hot. No really, it is HOT! Hands-on science experiments relating to heat will get students excited about learning. I teach a group of very smart, very amazing, very studious kids. They are the magnificent 6th graders at a high-need, rural school.

In science we need many supplies so students can have the opportunity to experiment and figure things out for themselves. We are in need of funding for supplies related to heat and the transfer of heat so we can practice inquiry and learn more about the nature of thermodynamics.

The resources we need include several experiment supplies, most of which can be used year after year so many students can benefit. The materials requested will be enough for 8 student groups of 3-4 to complete the experiments on their own, rather than just watching the teacher demonstrate the concepts. Heat conduction will be explored using conductometers, hand boilers, and ice melting blocks. Thermal radiation will be explored using a radiometer and UV detecting beads. Last, many of the experiments we do will include using thermometers to make quantitative observations.

You will make it possible for my students to enjoy inquiry and come up with their own scientific ideas about heat and energy. Hands-on science gets students excited and hungry for more. They enjoy manipulating tools and figuring out how things happen. That is what science is all about and you can help make it happen for these amazing students!
