"Take an audio tour of your neighborhood and realize the history and community impact your neighbors and store fronts have on your environment and school surroundings. That's what my 6th grade Special Education students who attend a high-need community in California propose to create. The tour doesn't stop there. . . what if future classes of 6th graders were able to listen to podcasts of what students in their prior years learned while in the same math and science classes?
Investment in your community can sometimes be difficult because you don't know where to start. My students and I will take walking field trips around our school, take detailed notes, make podcasts from those notes and create exciting audio tours of their neighborhood. To get a little more ambitious, our vision is to have students then check out the iPods with the podcasts and take walking audio tours around their neighborhoods with their families. It's a project that promotes being active in your community while sharing and spending time with the family. Having six iPod shuffles to loan out will not only be quite exciting for the students but also a way that they can share projects they have created with their families. They can actually take the project they made and have their parents listen to it. Your help will ensure that my students have an opportunity to be creative while at the same time learning about how important it is to be active in their community. Your help will also offer them chances to spend time with their families that they might not have had before. HIDE My students need 6 iPod Shuffles to share their community podcasts.
