Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a sixth grade English teacher in a New York public school. One of the classes I teach is a beginner/newcomer ESL class. Some of the students in this class have been in the United States for 2 or less years while others have recently arrived.

It is very challenging to teach students that speak very little English, especially when there are various levels and languages in the classroom. In this classroom there are five different native languages that are spoken, and in most cases, English is not spoken at home. Textbooks and workbooks are no longer used in the classroom since we have individualize instruction to target each student's individual needs.

The Lexmark Multifunction printer will help make it easier to reach each student. With the printer I can make copies of the various worksheets needed to teach these students and cater to their individualized needs. The file folders and portable file cabinet will help me to organize the handouts and worksheets.

Your help will make it possible for me to foster my students needs and help advance them as much as possible in their first attempts to learn our language.
