Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach life science to 9-12 grade students in a high needs urban school. I also run an after school music club. I help individuals and groups of students compose and record original music.

Most, if not all, kids today are very interested in music. Modern technology allows recording and creating near-studio-quality tracks from a computer. This allows educators the opportunity to help students create music outside of an expensive, specialized studio. I regularly work after school with students writing and recording music using only my laptop computer, guitars, basses, and a simple keyboard. My students would like to take our projects to the next level.

My students are amazed at the ease of creating and recording appealing, original music using the minimal resources in my room. I encourage kids in my classes to create songs or rhythm tracks for various assignments and assessments for class projects. You can help provide my students an opportunity to experience the next level of music production. Recording and creating music using top notch equipment will empower my kids to create pieces they never imagined they could. This creativity and self confidence in an academic setting will go a long way in building essential skills students will use in college.

Your support of this project will provide many kids opportunities they do not realize are possible. This self confidence and sense of accomplishment in a school setting will lead to increased confidence and academic retention. They will learn many strategies for excelling in school which will be essential to their success in college. The ownership they take of class projects will show them how to formulate plans and accomplish goals. These skills are critical to their college education and ultimately a successful life. This equipment will help students learn how to self-assess and utilize different strategies for learning new material. Using music and rhyming/mnemonics is a proven strategy for both learning and retaining new material. Help me prepare my students for college by using modern musical technology.
