"I am a second grade teacher in Arizona. My students are amazing! My entire class consists of children learning English as their second language. Most of my kids live in the trailer park across the street. Many don't have a place of their own to sleep, much less a place to study and read. Even though they face so many struggles they still strive to achieve incredible things and succeed in school.

Last year our students went from being the lowest to the highest in the district thanks to lots of hard work and cooperation between the students, teachers and parents. This year most of my students are below grade level, reading between 10-30 words per minute and our goal is to read 90 words per minute. As you can see we have lots of work to do, but we are up for the challenge! In order to help my kids learn how to read and become proficient readers I will need your help.

I am requesting a sturdy easel and a pocket chart to be used for direct instruction. This easel is perfect for small group instruction. Small group instruction is an essential and effective tool to help my kids learn how to read. This easel is big and wide so I will be able to write multiple words to teach reading. It is also magnetic so I can put letters up for the students to manipulate and make new words. This easel will be used all day long! I will use it during my small group instruction with at least two groups each day. It will be used to teach writing, math, science and social studies. Our easel will make lessons so much more engaging. Teaching at the front of the class with the children in a desk is not nearly as engaging as getting down on the floor close to the teacher and the easel. When the children are at their desk they can easily become distracted and/or bored. Some children cannot see the material that has been written from a distance and especially during times with multiple groups going on, my voice simply doesn’t carry enough for each student to hear me clearly during the entire time I'm teaching. With this easel I can call all the students down to the floor near me for lessons.

This easel will be the key for better and more effective instruction. Your donation will make it possible for us to reach our goals for second grade. Every cent donated will go to a great cause; helping children realize their full potential. My students and I will be grateful for any help that you can give us. Thank you so much for reading about my amazing students! HIDE

My students need a double sided wide easel and a pocket chart for holding all the supplies needed for teaching lessons.
