"We want to read, sing, and play Across America!

Greetings I am a music teacher in my 18th year of teaching! I presently am teaching K-3 elementary children. All children in the school are included in music including special education children, children from diverse backgrounds and this is also a very low income part of the state.

The 2nd grade class will be presenting an “integrated” music program this spring.

This program will be presented on Dr. Seuss’s birthday, which is also the

National “Read Across America” day.

The students will be reading books out loud to the audience and music will be incorporated.

The students will add song, accompany on Orff instruments and create dances in the program.

The students are responsible for the entire accompaniment to the music.

They will also present a medley from the musical “Seusicall” at the conclusion of the program.

This is a very unique event and I hope to see it continue. In order to do so our instruments must be updated and replaced as they ware out.

The Orff instruments that we presently have are old. Due to their age, some bars have been lost and the pegs are coming out. This means the instruments can no longer be used.

The “Read Across America” celebration on March 2, 2009 gives us the perfect venue to integrate music and to emphasize the importance of reading.

While the “Read Across America” program will be presented by the 2nd grade class, the entire student body will be using them and working to gain musically skill with there use. So this project will impact over 400 students and will reach a very diverse group of children including American Indian, African American, Asian, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and Caucasian descent.

I do not have a music budget and money has been cut from the schools budget, so there are no funds available for the music program.

Our students love music and all students want to be involved and you can make it happen. Keep the children reading and making music with your donation

I strongly believe that music plays an important role in the motivation for children to attend school, as well as giving them a better cultural experience and preparing them to work better in society. Students playing these instruments will have to work together and listen to each other to create great music and therefore have a great program. Bono said that “Music can change the world because it can change people.” I want my students to have the opportunity to be ‘changed’ into better people who believe

that they are an important part of the world, and this can be done through music.

Through the use of the Orff instruments children will be able to accompany themselves with these instruments and gain a sense of accomplishment and realization of goal setting.

You can make it happen. You can make a difference.

Our school theme this year is “Wild About Our School”. The students in this school also learn to be “Wild About Music” and “Wild About Reading”. You can make a difference with your donation to help keep our children “Wild About Coming to School”. We want each moment of our school day to be an opportunity that makes learning fun and helps students to see that “Knowledge is Power”!

You can and will make leaning fun and set them on a road to changing the world for the better with your donation!! HIDE

My students need a new Orff Alto Xylophone to continue our integrated program, "Read Across America", which is a great reading and music event. The cost of this proposal is $520, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."
