"I am the library media specialist at a middle school with students in grades 5-8 and a daycare for employees' children.

Our fifth and sixth grade teachers have recently been introduced to the Six Plus One Traits of Writing to help improve our students' writing skills. All of the traits can be introduced effectively with use of picture books. Our library dollars are already stretched due to the wide range of reading levels and curricular subjects that the grade 5-8 configuration demands. We would also like to use the picture books as incentive for our students to use in the employee daycare.

The rich language and beautiful rhythm of the 28 picture books chosen will provide teachers with models of the traits of writing that they are teaching. The hope is that these books will motivate students to experiment and emulate these writing techniques. We also plan to work with our guidance counselors to allow students who are working on behavior improvement plans to use the picture books. One of the "rewards" these students could choose as a result of good behavior would be to read a picture books to one of the groups in the daycare. Not only could this improve the self-esteem of our middle school students but it will begin the love of books and reading with our pre-schoolers.

You will make it possible for my teachers and students to harness the power of picture books to get excited about writing and reading. You will also help reward students for making good choices and give them the opportunity to provide a service within our learning environment. You will make it possible for middle school students to model reading to preschool children. HIDE

My students need 28 picture books representing the six traits of writing. The cost of this proposal is $331, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."
