I am a high-school business teacher at a school that is more academically challenging than most. Although it is public, students are tested to gain entrance. It is located in a well-off suburban area; however the school district sometimes is unable to sufficiently fulfill our school's needs.

I teach a class called Virtual Enterprise, which is basically a mock business. My students work hard in the classroom in order to compete at trade shows and win awards. This is a very rewarding experience because students are able to work together in a realistic business setting -- except for one thing. Our classroom does not look like a business classroom because of our chairs. On every single chair the leather is worn to reveal the yellow foam on the arms, the wheels stick and more than a quarter of them could snap in half if a student leaned back too far. Obviously this is not only unprofessional but also endangering and distracting to the students.

If we were to get new chairs, the benefits would be endless. Besides fulfilling the basic needs of safety, these chairs would enable students to work more efficiently. They create an environment that promotes a business attitude. By replacing these dilapidated chairs, students would feel a renewed sense of motivation and would mentally remove themselves from a high school environment to a work environment.

With the addition of these chairs, my students will be able to realize their potential as professionals in the business world. My students don't even have the luxury of regular plastic classroom chairs, and some of them sit on the tables and floor. How can I teach a business class if the students not only feel unsafe in chairs that are at their breaking point, but wholly sub-par to other business classes in the district. Your donation would help not only my department, but also the entire school as it advocates a safe learning environment for everyone. If I want these students to act like adults, they should have the opportunity to feel like adults too.
