I teach middle school in rural Mississippi. We have a great group of 8th graders this year. I want to give them a 21st century learning experience by allowing them to create digital projects. In addition to, I would like to assign a journalism assignment (school newspaper) in which my students would really utilize a digital camera/camcorder. I hope that this project expands into a school newspaper for next year. I cannot undertake this without the necessary equipment, though.

We have very limited technology at my school because of budget restrictions. There is no funding for resources like this. I am asking your help to provide this experience to my students. This is a student initiated idea. I am assisting them to bring it to fruition.

My students need a Canon Powershot camera and supplies. This project will create and inspire a passion for journalism. So many of our students never read or watch the news. We hope to create a desire to do so.

With these resources, I hope to leave a school newspaper as a legacy for future students at AMS. We have great kids that deserve only the best. I'm asking for your help in giving them the best education I can. I hope to spark the interest of our next Katie Couric, Barbara Walters, Oprah Winfrey, or Tom Brokaw. They might just be sitting in my classroom today. Thank you for your time and consideration.
