"Engaging students in reading is the most vital piece of a literacy program that will truly move students forward. Our students need engaging books that will help them develop a true love of literature. We teach fourth grade at an arts-infused charter school in a low-income area of Indiana.

This is our second year working with the same group of students. Last year we improved our students' reading levels by two years. We attribute this success to our use of high-interest whole class novel studies. Our students went from being non-readers who were frustrated and disheartened by reading to on-grade-level readers who love books. We do not have school funding to continue this successful program.

We have prepared a curriculum around these three novels, however our school cannot fund the novel sets. We need to continue basing our reading program around whole class novel studies. When our students read the same book at the same time they can discuss, make connections, and share the experience together. For this reason, we are asking for 54 copies each of three different books: "James and the Giant Peach", "Number the Stars", and "The Watson's go to Birmingham: 1963". We want to expose our students to classics in children’s literature. This will expose them to a variety of genres and subjects that have relevance in their lives.

If we can keep our students engaged in reading, we will be able to put them on the right track to success. Students need to have real experiences with books they love in order to value reading and develop into life-long readers. You will turn our classroom into a place where young children become life long readers and critical thinkers.

Our students need 54 copies of "James and the Giant Peach," "Number the Stars," and "The Watsons go to Birmingham: 1963," in order to continue our successful shared reading program. The cost of this proposal is $1,369, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Thank you so much for your generous contributions to our project. In two weeks a box full of fantastic literature will be delivered to our school. So many of your responded that we picked books that you enjoyed in your own childhood. We are glad that our students will get the same opportunity with these books. Incorporating these books into our curriculum will be an incredible learning experience for our students. You just made that possible.

Again, thank you!

With gratitude,
