Lean On Me!

My 27 first graders need an easel so they can have a clear view of a book when they are sitting on the floor or at the desk.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My school is in a high poverty area. The students are great, kind and caring. I teach all areas of study. I like to teach hands-on lessons and read stories with the children about their favorite topics. The focus is on reading and getting the students to be able to sound out words and read fluently.

We need a way for students to show off their reading talent by coming up in front of the class and pointing to words and sentences and having them read it to the other students. Showing off is a great motivator!

An easel is the solution. The children can come up and read, turn pages, highlight text, find words and view the pictures without having to sit on their knees due to the picture being blocked out by heads of other students. It will also allow me, as their teacher, to read the books with longer text while they look at the pictures.

By supporting this, you will be a part of helping my students learn to read better and making it easier for me to teach the joy of reading. Reading is the building block for everything. My goal is to help my students read so that they can someday head to college and become whatever they want to be, not just have a job because it is all they could get.
