High-needs community in need of Shakespeare. Students desire to do well, but are often handicapped by the lack of materials.

Many of my students live below the poverty line, and each year I feel bad asking the students to purchase these books since I know some students cannot afford them. Finding books in my room often involves search and rescue efforts since I do not have adequate shelving.

With these books, I can insure that students have what they need to be successful in my class, and the book shelf will be a valuable organizational tool. I also have students complete projects on Hamlet and the books will provide the students with the tool they need to know and understand exactly what they are doing. Student projects range from performing a scene to rewriting a key soliloquy in Modern English. Students also learn how to handle difficult situations as we study this play. I feel very strongly about equipping my students who will face many challenges as they enter the "adult world." Also, learning to decipher difficult text and language prepares them to cope effectively with difficult situations in the future. With a firm understanding of language and how people use language, my students will be better prepared to distinguish scams and con-artists from the real deals.
