I take the writing process seriously. We develop portfolios, revise writing, peer edit, share, and ultimately publish our work. This helps my students learn to write thoughtfully for a variety of purposes and audiences. Of course they need to be able to do this in college and beyond. Just think of all the reasons people write: to present, to persuade, to entertain, to explain, to share. Unfortunately printers and paper are hard to come by in our school. Right now, there isn't a single working printer in our computer labs or library. It's difficult to print a final draft, much less multiple drafts for editing and revising.

My students need a printer, with some toner and paper. We can connect it to the computer that donorschoose supporters have so generously given to my classroom. This way my students can print out drafts for peer editing and revising. When students can print out drafts more easily, they can spend more time considering word choice, correcting their grammar, sharing their writing and receiving valuable feedback.
