Black flakes and wobbly pans - yuck! I am a Family and Consumer Science teacher for 8th through 12th grade students. Our kitchen pots and pans are about 25 years old and are needing replacement. We are a small, high-need community.

Students participate in many life skill lessons which include kitchen safety and food preparation. While working in our food labs, it is not uncommon to find black specs in our food due to the chipping away of the Teflon coating from years of use and scratches. We also have to search for lids that fit and often use ones that are too big for the job. Several of our pans are not level and are not used due to safety concerns.

My students need four sets of kitchen cookware. Using non-scratched pans with good fitting lids would greatly enhance the learning process of food preparation and make our food safe to eat. This would also encourage students to try the foods they have prepared.

Your help will make it possible for my students to feel more successful preparing new foods with proper and safe equipment. With classroom and school budget cuts, it will be difficult to obtain this equipment. Your help will make a difference in the training our new chefs.
