Help me convince them just how capable they really are by giving them the materials they need to innovate and succeed! I teach 6th grade English Language Arts to special needs students in a high poverty school in New York City.

My students suffer with self confidence issues and often express how little they believe in themselves. They believe that they can't learn or succeed as well as other students because of the obstacles they face both in their community and in the classroom. I use technology in my class as much as I can in order to inspire them, but how amazing would it be to show them just how much they can accomplish by putting the technology in their hands?

I'm fortunate enough to have access to laptops for my students to utilize and I just know that introducing them to filmmaking would really spark their interest. Instead of teaching essay writing in the traditional paragraph form, I'd love to have my students think outside the box and have them organize their "essays" into video! My students need 7 iPod nanos (with video and audio recording capability) so that we have enough video cameras to share and 4 headphone splitters so that students can all listen to the audio on the computer as they edit their movies.

Help me show them just how much they can accomplish by allowing me to differentiate my instruction to cater to their needs. Your help will put the power in their hands... give it to them!
