"Were you always able to get basic school supplies when you were a student? I teach Science to 6th and 7th graders at a very diverse, high-need school. Often, even the most basic school supplies are hard for them to come by.

This year, my goal is to have students take more ownership and responsibility in their academic progress by making portfolios that track their grade/behavior progress, keep records of model work, and that require goal-setting and career planning for high school and beyond. I believe that teaching my students how to set high, but attainable goals, and watch their progress unfold are all important steps that to keep my students invested in school during these crucial middle school years.

Having a class set of binders and dividers will help my classes start on the right foot. We can start an organization system at the beginning of the year that will model responsible record keeping that many of my students have not been trained to do before. The portfolios are also a great way to showcase student achievements and give peer feedback as well as allowing parents/guardians get a sense of their student's strengths and/or weaknesses. It is both an organizational tool and communication tool to students and their families.

You can help make an invaluable difference in my classes by contributing to this request for simple supplies. My students come with the excitement to learn about science, but need the tools to stay invested in their education year round! Thank you for your incredible generosity.

My students need 150 binders for high school and academic portfolios. The cost of this proposal is $492, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Dear Lynn, Cheryl, Mike, & Siena, Fred, Angie, Alex, Steve, Kim, Dr. Cue, karen, Grace, Stephanie, Susan R., Jessica, Alfred, Jennifer, Russ, Philomena, Linda, Bonnie, American Title, Inc. and Anonymous Donor,

Thank you so much for contributing to my project to create high school portfolios for my middle school students. At their age, they need a lot of investment in their education and academic progress and you will help me keep track of their progress in an organized and efficient way. We now have the ability to keep model work, track their grades, and monitor academic/behavior progress throughout the year.

With your help, my students will have a better focus on their goals and have a better chance of getting into great high schools. Thanks again for making a big change for my classroom community!

With gratitude,
Ms. L.
