I teach reading and math to 100 fourth through eighth grade students in a small rural Kansas school district. I also work with At-Risk students.

With a $500,000 decrease in funding, teachers are required to seek out grants and donations for classroom supplies. In the past, this origami project has been very successful, with students even coming in on their own time to work beyond the classroom expectations.

What we need for this project to continue is a supply of paper. I have books and instructions sheets that I use with the students; however, this year I do not have origami paper available. I have completed a list of possible paper choices, but any donations would be greatly appreciated.

This is one of those projects that appeals to students who may not like to read. It is also a way to incorporate art into a lesson since the district does not offer our students art, shop, or home ec. classes. Any donations will help enhance student learning opportunities.
