Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have a fun group of kindergarteners that I teach in Texas. The county where we live is poverty stricken and many of our students come from the homeless shelter and the orphanage.

My students vary in ethnicity, family background, even language but the one thing they can all relate to is watching television. If I can get them all interested in one thing they instantly have something in common...and what if that something in common was also 'secretly' teaching them something! That would be a success!

Using the DVD set of Between the Lions (a television show produced to teach phonics) I would get all of my students interested in the same thing. They all love watching television, which we have in our room already, but we need a place to store the TV the DVD player, and we need the Between the Lions disks.

These DVDs aren't just something for the students to watch and enjoy, they come with lesson plans and online extenders of what they learned from watching the shows. They will become a valuable teaching tool in my everyday classroom routine.
