We Are a Crafty Class!

My students need feathers, cotton bandanas and a classroom pack of dye.

My school is composed of primarily African-American students. I would like for my sixth grade students to explore the traditions of Native American cultures, as there is a great history of these proud peoples in the area in which we will be attending camp.

By securing materials for camp through donorschoose, the overall cost of camp can be reduced, allowing more needy children the chance to participate.

The craft materials will allow each cabin at camp to create an identity. The students will use the craft materials to make bandanas (a school sponsored activity). The bandanas will be used to establish tribes, as diversity and Native American cultures and history will be a topic of study at camp. They will justify the choices that they make and discuss tribal customs. This will be tied into the many activities at camp that include a Native American theme.

Your support will give more studetns the chance to participate in this experience. You will make it possible for my students to spend some time out of the city learning about science in a natural setting.
