I teach English as a Second Language in a poverty-stricken urban area in Indiana. All of the students that I work with speak Spanish.

How are the parents of these Spanish-speaking students supposed to be expected to read with their children in the evenings when they don't speak English?

The school corporation has provided my classroom with 16 LeapPads. The kids LOVE them, but are getting tired of the book selections. These LeapPads are wonderful because the students can check them out from our classroom to take home.

This is another effort in trying to bridge the achievement gap between native English-speakers and non-native English-speakers. We, as English speakers, all know how valuable it is for parents to read with their children at night. Many of my Spanish-speaking students do not have this option, and I am trying my best to provide a substitute for them.
