Science and Literacy Unit... Two for the Price of One!
My students need 20 copies of the following rich non-fiction books to learn both reading skills and science: "Verano", "La Primavera", "El Otono", and "El Invierno".

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a new charter school in a downtown area. Most kids are of low income and we rely heavily on generous donations from donors like you for books and other essential materials for successful and motivating learning.
In order to make deeper connections between the content area of science and literacy skills we are working on teaching a integrated unit. In this unit students will learn to navigate non-fiction texts, learn to apply reading skills, while at the same time acquiring the scientific knowledge related to the seasons and the weather. In order to have each child apply these literacy skills to this science unit however, each child will need a copy of the non-fiction text.
With your donation, of 4 books each on one of the seasons, each child will be able to learn about the seasons through a close up interaction and reading of a quality book. Each child will be able to evaluate and study headings, pictures, and vocabulary up close and apply reading skills to content learning.
The importance of each child having a book to work with is crucial to the success of the integrated unit. Without the books, the unit will not be as powerful. Your donations can give each child a book to read and discover page by page at their own pace.
You will make it possible for children to read and learn about science all at once. This integration, with the right books, will be a motivating and fun learning experience for my students. We thank you in advanced for your contribution to the success of our students.
