I teach elementary music to 800 students from Kindergarten through 5th grades in a high-poverty area.

We have a new school building for K-2, but no instruments. My 1st and 2nd grade students are already used to the techniques that we use, but now have no way to implement them.

This project is part five of a series to gain instruments for our new music classroom. I need enough pitched and unpitched percussion instruments for each student to participate. This project includes instruments from different cultures including Africa and the Caribbean. This would allow each student to have something to play while simultaneously learning about music from different parts of the world.

The Mallet Madness techniques implement literacy training into the music classroom, while allowing the students to rotate through all the instruments. This technique builds self-confidence, as well as a foundation for learning in other areas of life.
