Please help us to read and vote for our favorite books.

My students need 10 copies of this year's young adult California Young Reader Medal nominees so that we can participate in choosing the favorite young adult book for California. There are three books, "Story of a Girl", "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian", and "Saint Iggy" we must read in order to choose and vote. The author of the book we choose will receive a medal. We are very excited to participate in this, but have no books. We want to read. We want to vote. Please help us start our lifelong participation in the democratic process by providing the books we need. Thank you.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach informational literacy in a high school. I am a teacher librarian and wish my students to both read more and start participating in the democratic process. To that end I'd like them to read the three CYRM nominees and vote on their favorite book.

Our school has no money for any purchases. We serve a diverse population of low income students all qualifying for free lunch. The students love reading, but the library collection is outdated. In order to participate in the CYRM program they must each read the three books nominated. They are not in our current collection and I have no money to purchase any.

I need a minimum of 10 copies each of Saint Iggy, Story of a Girl and Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian. Total cost is around $220.00. This would allow 30 students at a time to read the CYRM nominees on a rotational basis. I need them soon because voting is in March and the faster the students can read all three, the more students can participate in the program.

You donation will not only support reading but will also start our young adults on a path to participating in the democratic process. Each student that reads all three titles is allowed to vote for their favorite book. No adults are allowed to vote, only students. Votes are tallied and the author whose book is chosen as a favorite receives a medal, not unlike those at the Olympics. This is a very coveted award by authors, as it is bestowed on them by the very audience they write for; students. Please support our efforts in both reading and democracy. Your donation will allow us to read AND vote.
